Description

I suppose I'll leave this drawing without a title. I started it out thinking it would say something about contemporary culture, which on some level it does, but to what extent? Possibly more than I give it credit for -- perhaps this was something I refused to put into words, or maybe they just never came to me concretely and I didn't want to fill some diatribe of a vague statement or intent here. At the very least, I figure this particular juxtaposition would draw an interesting parallel.

Although you say you weren't really trying to make a statement here, this actually strikes me on a personal level. Although I personally can't relate to this image, I have a family member or two, despite their circumstances, would buy things such as designer sunglasses and Starbucks rather than invest their money on more practical things.

The woman and her children, although not drawn in their original context, support my interpretation of indulging oneself while impoverished. Those poor kids, haha :P

On a technical note, I could place the original photograph next to this and and I'm sure they would look exactly the same with the exception of the sunglasses and Starbucks cup, and the hand holding it.

Fantastic job as always!
